Senior Financial Manager/ Junior Financial Controller

The Role: Our Financial Backbone As our Senior Finance Manager, you will be the single point of control for our financial health. You aren't just managing spreadsheets; you are protecting our cash, driving our profit, and acting as the Director's strategic right hand. While you will own the day-to-day finance function, you will have a strong support structure. You will be mentored and supported by a Fractional Finance Director (FD) who provides high-level strategic guidance, and you will work side-by-side with an internal Ledger Clerk who will assist with the heavy lifting of daily processing. Key Responsibilities 1. Financial Control \& Professional Compliance Maintain accurate, real-time records in Xero and perform monthly bank reconciliations. Take full ownership of all statutory requirements, including VAT, CIS, PAYE, NI, and AE pensions. Manage company payroll and salaries with a high level of accuracy and confidentiality. Act as our primary liaison for accountants, HMRC, banks, and insurers. 2. Strategic Cash \& Credit Management Develop and manage weekly rolling cash flow forecasts for 13, 26, and 52-week cycles. Maintain control over all credit facilities, loans, and overdrafts to ensure business stability. Lead our debtor and retention control, ensuring payments are chased and collected efficiently. Oversee the payment run to ensure every pound is accounted for without surprises. 3. Professional Project \& Commercial Finance Accurately record all project-level costs, including labour, materials, plant, subcontractors, and overheads. Produce a professional monthly P\&L for every live job to highlight margins and risks early. Partner with our project and commercial teams to sense-check tender pricing and identify overspends. Ensure total financial visibility before any new project commences. 4. Systems, People \& Reporting Deliver clear, weekly and monthly reporting on cash, debtors, and P\&L performance. Provide professional written commentary on financial trends, variances, and required actions. Own our financial internal systems, from purchase order control and expenses to onboarding and holiday tracking. Fix root causes of issues rather than symptoms to help us scale smoothly. About You Expertise: You have 10+ years of experience in finance management, ideally with a solid grasp of the construction or property industry. Skills: You are a Xero expert and highly proficient with MS Office applications. Education: You hold a Diploma of Higher Education; an MBA or professional certification (ACCA/CIMA) is preferred. Personality: You are methodical, organized, calm under pressure, and obsessed with accuracy. Communication: You are comfortable challenging decisions and holding people to account in a friendly, professional way. Drive: You are genuinely interested in improving a business’s financial position and supporting strategic decisions with data snd utilising technology in this ever expanding digital world.
