Senior Technical Business Analyst
Senior Technical Business Analyst – Birmingham (Hybrid, 60% on-site) £600–£650 per day | 12-month contract | Inside IR35 We are supporting a major central government digital programme delivering critical engineering capabilities across a large-scale, complex environment. This is a highly technical, hands-on Business Analyst role working directly with software engineering teams. It is not a traditional requirements-gathering or documentation-only position. The Role You will operate as a Senior Technical Business Analyst , working closely with engineers, architects and DevOps teams to shape and deliver technical solutions. You will: * Take ownership of technical epics and poorly defined backlog items * Break these down into clear, delivery-ready user stories * Work day-to-day with software engineers, DevOps and testers * Facilitate technical discussions and ensure shared understanding * Define scope, risks, assumptions, and dependencies across initiatives * Provide ongoing clarification during build and test phases What We’re Looking For This role requires recent, hands-on experience working within software engineering teams . You must clearly demonstrate: * Experience as a Technical Business Analyst embedded within engineering teams (last 2–3 years) * Writing technical user stories and delivering measurable outcomes * Strong collaboration with developers, DevOps, architects and testers * Confidence operating in ambiguous environments and shaping solutions Technical Environment You do not need to be an engineer, but you must be technically credible and comfortable working in modern engineering environments. Experience should include exposure to: * Cloud platforms (AWS and/or Azure) * CI/CD pipelines (e.g. GitLab, Jenkins) * APIs and service-based architectures * Containers (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes) * DevOps practices and ways of working * Non-functional requirements (security, resilience, testability) Agile \& Delivery Approach * Strong Agile mindset (Scrum / Kanban) * Experience working in fast-paced, evolving delivery environments * Comfortable managing ambiguity and refining unclear requirements * Focus on outcomes, not just documentation Environment * Central government / public sector digital environment * Large-scale, complex engineering landscape * Structured delivery with clear governance Location \& Working Pattern * Birmingham (primary hub) * Minimum 60% on-site attendance required * Candidates must be within a realistic 60–90 minute commute Additional Information * 12-month initial contract * Day rate up to £650 (inside IR35, umbrella) * BPSS clearance required (must be eligible) * One-stage interview process (Teams) * Immediate start preferred If you are a technically strong Business Analyst who enjoys working closely with engineering teams and shaping solutions in complex environments, this role offers the opportunity to make a tangible impact within a large-scale digital programme.
